Hand painted Louis Vuitton Keepall

As many of you may know, Louis Vuitton has a history in making durable and iconic luggage.  Louis Vuitton started as a box maker and one of the first bags he designed was the Keepall in 1930.  The Keepall was introduced by Gaston Vuitton as the moderately sized weekender bag of Louis Vuitton to accommodate the shifting travel habits of people at the time. The Keepall Bag is the spirit of modern travel: light, flexible and always ready for an immediate departure.

People traveled longer distances and different means of transportation called for flexible luggage solutions in lieu of hard-sided luggage suitcases and boxy trunks. The Keepall Bag was Gaston Vuitton’s response to the new trends. As a result, his flexible duffle bag became an immediate hit among his discerning clientele.

Keepall; being the unisex bag that's great as a carry-on for every trip, got iconic almost immediately. The Louis Vuitton Keepall bag is the all-time favorite for many celebrities and influencers across the world.

The Design of the Keepall Bag

The Keepall bag is available in four different sizes: 45, 50, 55 and 60. These numbers indicate the width of the Keepall in centimeters. The first three sizes are ideal for hand luggage on the plane. The Keepall 60 is not allowed as a carry-on on the plane, because it simply is just too big. If you mainly go on roadtrips, it is highly suggested that you go with the Keepall 60.

Next to the different sizes, the Keepall comes with or without a Bandoulière: a shoulder strap. A Keepall with Bandoulière will have an extra vertical leather strap attached on the side of the bag, to strengthen the bag. The Keepall with Bandoulière can easily detach the shoulder strap at any time.

A Very Durable Bag

On the vintage market, you will see a lot of Keepall Bags dating around the 1980s and 1990s. The Louis Vuitton Keepall Bag is proven to be durable and well made. The aging will show on the Vachetta leather, which will get water marks and patina, which is the coloration process of this unprocessed leather.

Overall, the Louis Vuitton Keepall can be described as very handy, but above all very stylish bag.
